Carteret General Receives Smoking Cessation Referral Award
(Morehead City, NC) Carteret General Hospital was recognized as the top referral source for NC Prevention Partner's (NCPP) Tobacco Use Quitline.
On June 3rd NCPP presented an award to Carteret General for its first Fax Referral Challenge to the N.C. Tobacco Use Quitline that wrapped up at the end of April. The Challenge encouraged hospitals to make use of this important tool and over the past 10 months, referrals to the Quitline have tripled.
Carteret General Hospital shared information with 232 patients during the contest period from July 2008 to April 2009. These patients agreed to discuss tobacco cessation with a wellness representative or Allwell staff member during their stay in the hospital. Of these patients 65 agreed to use the NC Tobacco Use Quitline. This allowed CGH to take first place in the medium sized hospitals across the state for the most referrals. The members of the Allwell staff, Elaine Crittenton, Director; Rosey Liles, administrative assistant, Elaine Keating RN; Valerie Russell RN were present at the awards ceremony in Chapel Hill, NC on June 3rd, 2009 to accept this award. Other staff members responsible helping attain this goal are Annette Tersigni RN and Jennie Busteed RN.
“We are so pleased that NC Prevention Partners has recognized our efforts to help our community stop smoking and using tobacco,” says Beth Beswick, Vice President of Human Resources/PR. “This is one example of how we are meeting our mission of providing quality healthcare with exceptional compassion and respect.”
