2009 Festival of Trees Plans Underway

The 2009 Festival of Trees Committee is actively preparing for their holiday fundraising event for Hospice of Carteret County. Held the beginning of December, this annual tradition helps to ensure the best possible care and support for those facing a life limiting illness.

The annual Festival of Trees will be held Friday, December 4th through Wednesday, December 9th at the Crystal Coast Civic Center. The Festival will celebrate the beauty, tradition and music of the holiday season. It will feature beautifully decorated trees, live local entertainment, and visits with Santa.

The theme for this year’s event is Holiday Paradise which celebrates the joy of the holiday season with our own tropical flare. This is an opportunity to raise much needed funds to support the life-affirming services provided for hospice patients. Examples of this support include patient medications, medical equipment, treatment, sitters, utility bills and groceries.

Volunteers are needed to assist the committee before, during, and after the Festival of Trees. Opportunities include obtaining sponsors, working at the Festival, helping set up and break down trees before and after the event.

Tree sponsorships and decorating opportunities are available. Sponsorships start at $350 and are much appreciated. Sponsorships allow us to offer this beautiful event to our community and schools each holiday season.

The kickoff of the festivities will be a Christmas Concert with Panyelo on Thursday, December 3rd. Panyelo is a steel drum band. Tickets are $25 in advance or $30 at the door.

Another meaningful part of the Festival of Trees is the Tree of Lights. A tax-deductible donation of $25 or more may be made in memory of a loved one or in honor of a special person in your life. This year’s Tree of Lights is sponsored by Medical Park Pharmacy and Home Medical. All donations received prior to November 25 will be acknowledged on the Tree of Lights and during the Festival. Forms are available by calling 808-6085 or by visiting www.ccgh.org.

The holidays are not complete without a visit to Santa. Children may visit with Santa anytime throughout the Festival.

All proceeds benefit patients and families of Hospice of Carteret County. Hospice of Carteret County is a division of Carteret General Hospital and is the only not-for-profit hospice agency in this area.
